The Eye of The Glyph by GrainGnome by Estonius The Eye of The Glyph by GrainGnome by Estonius
The way wicked cool styley, details, and colours/fx of :icongraingnome: GrainGnome on my character "The Glyph" showcasing his eye of Horus plasma shooting power and metallic extendo-arm! He really captured the character extremely well. Check out his gallery here! graingnome.deviantart.com/gall…

And if you would like to read more about The Glyph's powers and background, the Library of Congress recommends that you click here estonius.deviantart.com/art/Th… !

It may be a bad influence of video games, but from thumbnail I assumed it's a crazy interpretation of the asari race from Mass Effect :P Very awesome work :D

Several people have commented that The Glyph looks similar to other characters from various other media. I, normally, just thank them for their comments, but your comment seemed to ask for more (in a nice way). The Glyph and my other characters currently in my gallery were originally created by me in the mid-90's. I stopped playing video games and reading comic books in the late 90's. I've had to google most of the characters from various other media that people have commented looked similar to The Glyph because I have no idea who they are (like your Asari race from Mass Effect). After googling them, I do note the similarities though. However, most of those other characters were created after my characters were created. Another thing that comes into play, is that some of the artists that I have commissioned do know who those characters from various other media are, and that may have influenced some of them, as far as how they decided to interpret my characters. In a conclusionary manner, I'm not sayin' my characters' designs don't have outside influences; I'm just sayin' no one has guessed the right ones yet! ;) Oh, and thank you for your comment, I appreciate it! =)

As I said, the thumbnail fooled me, from up close it seems much less like the asari. Never really liked the guessing game, though. I'm more of a 'just tell me the damned thing' kind of person, you know :P
To the main topic: I think it's nothing bad that some things are influenced by another. As one of my art teachers said, if you'd try to create something completely without ANY resemblance to the world around you, the only possible outcome is crap (which is what most of modern art has become, imho). Everything kind of 'already was', we can only deal with it. Also, there will always be someone, who'll brag about this - but why care? If it's yours and it has a soul, it could be inspired by a thousand of other things and still be great.
I also really get you when it comes to 'my character was created earlier than this'. Sometimes it's the only way to make someone understand, that certain similarities are purely coincidental. Mostly because such 'someone' can be really stubborn and refuses to believe the words alone, oh how I hate it :P
The Glyph himself seems really awesome, I could tell right away that he took more than just couple hours or days of designing. He seems to have an actual personality and a personality cannot simply be made in a week. If it is, it's probably somewhere in "Twilight".
Cheers!
